Description

For this class, students should be comfortable with their sewing machine, including being able to use appropriate tension, seam width, seam length, reverse, and sewing straight, 1/4” seams. We will learn to sew in a zipper in two ways, make a small zippered pouch, a large, lined, zipper tote, quilt a piece of fabric, learn to read a pattern, and make a pair of pants or shorts.

Description

This is a beginning sewists class for students ages 15 +. You will learn basic techniques of sewing. You will use these techniques as you create four beautiful projects over the 5 weeks. You will learn about fabrics, machine needles, techniques for finishing seams & how to properly cut your fabric. There will not be a class on Apr25.

Students need to bring their own sewing machines in good working order.

Looking for a stylish bag to carry projects or take shopping? The Firefly Tote pattern by Noodlehead features a front zippered and slip pocket, an interior slip pocket, and a drawstring top closure. The pattern is perfect for waxed canvas or cork and can be made in two sizes (tote size is 10” wide x 5” deep x 14” tall; project size is 8” wide x 5” deep X 10” tall). Bring your lunch and join instructor Sara Young for this day-long class where she will share tips for working with waxed canvas and cork, and her no-fuss method for installing zippers. To maximize class time, students will need to cut (and interface, as appropriate) all pieces before coming to class.

Bag Making Workshop

Do you have a bag pattern you have been wanting to make? Could you use some help with the pattern instructions, particular techniques, or working with new materials or hardware? Or would you just like to hang out with other bag-makers and sew? If so, Sara Young is hosting a day of sewing support for fellow bag-making enthusiasts. Bring a bag pattern of your choosing, your sewing machine, and your bag-making supplies and spend the day making something beautiful and useful! Sara will be available to help you work through your project with practical tips and techniques. All levels welcome, beginner to advanced, however Sara recommends having all your material cut before class to maximize your workshop time.
