Flower Collage
Art Quilt Workshop with Susan Brubaker Knapp

Sat, May 4, 2024 10:00am - 4:30pm

Description

This is an improvisational raw-edge collage class. Students work from photos of real flowers, create their own drawings based on abstractions of them, and then cut out pieces without patterns. They arrange the pieces, tack them down on the background with diluted school glue, and then free motion quilt the piece. An easy, fun, no-worries class. A sewing machine with a free-motion foot and extended work surface required.

Class Fee: $165.00 Instructor: Susan Brubaker Knapp

Instructor Information: (Information taken from Susan's Website)
I am an artist, author, photographer, teacher, and host of “Quilting Arts TV.” I started out as a traditional quilter, and still love hand quilting and needleturn appliqué, but I also embrace art quilting and innovative machine techniques. I started making art quilts in 2005. … I am an artist who works in fabric and thread. I find great joy in creating works that draw people closer and invite them to savor color, texture and form.

"The Artist in You"
Presentation by Susan Brubaker Knapp

Fri, May 10, 2024 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Description

The Artist in You is a one-hour digital slide show and trunk show. I describe my personal journey from that of a traditional quilter to an artist who makes both traditional quilts and art quilts. I start with a digital slideshow, which shows my work and some of the techniques I use. The focus is on ways for traditional quilters to become more creative by embracing their own “inner artist.” It is my goal to inspire and encourage quilters to try making an art quilt for several reasons: to challenge themselves, to unleash their innate creativity, to learn new techniques, to discover things about themselves through art, and to share their view of the world with others. There will be an opportunity to view quilts and ask questions.

Class Fee: $45.00 Presentor: Susan Brubaker Knapp

Looperette Quilt
Sat, May 18, 2024 10:30am - 4:30pm

Design

The Looperette quilt pattern is designed as a series of modular blocks that can be rearranged to create a custom design. Learn how easy and fun it can be to design your own Looperette variation! Sara Young will help you plan out your unique design, including how to make cross-over blocks. Please note that there will be no sewing (or fabric cutting) in this session; this class is only a design session. Sara will show you two ways to design your quilt: by using the pattern’s mini printable blocks to create a design on paper, or by using a free quilt mock up website online. Students wanting to design on paper will need to purchase the pattern and bring at least 4 copies of the mini coloring blocks page along with colored pencils or markers. Students interested in learning how to use the free online application to design their quilt will need to bring a laptop or tablet. A separate class (on May18) is also being offered for students who are interested in sewing the Looperette quilt.

Class Fee: $20.00 Instructor: Sara Young

Quilt

Want to make a bold, graphic, modern quilt and conquer curved piecing at the same time? Join instructor Sara Young in this all-day class to make the Looperette quilt, designed by Miss Make. The pattern can be made in a number of predetermined sizes, or if you are feeling adventurous you can customize the pattern’s modular blocks into your own Looperette creation. A separate, optional design class is also being offered in advance to help students who are interested in customizing the pattern,
Bring your sewing machine in good working condition.
