Description


Machine Sewing - a Primer

This class is part of the 3-module series: "Beginning Sewing." You will learn the parts and functions of a sewing machine and how to troubleshoot common problems. You will become confident with the most useful machine stitches and learn about different types of fabric and thread selection. Essential sewing tools will be covered in detail. For your first project, you will make a pin cushion in class.

Machine Sewing - Techniques

This class is part of the 3-module series: "Beginning Sewing." In this class, you will gain confidence using the rotary cutter, practice maintaining a consistent seam allowance, learn about seam finishes and practice topstitching. You will put your new skills to use to make a fully lined tote bag with cotton webbing straps during this class. COMPLETION OF Machine Sewing: a primer/MODULE 1 OR EQUIVALENT KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED to take this class.

Machine Sewing - Zippers

This class is part of the 3-module series: "Beginning Sewing." A class devoted to all you need to know about zippers. We will discuss the different sizes and types of zippers and their best applications. During class you will learn how to install a centered zipper and an invisible zipper. You will then use these skills during the class to make a zippered pouch and practice installing an invisible zipper. COMPLETION OF Machine Sewing: a primer/MODULE 1 OR EQUIVALENT KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED to take this class.

Garment Sewing - An introduction

This class is part of the 3-module series: "Beginning Sewing." Learn frequently used sewing terminology and advance your sewing skills while making a comfortable pair of casual slacks.

Topics/skills: Measuring yourself and selecting the correct pattern size, reading a sewing pattern; tracing, marking and cutting your fabric; using pattern instructions to assemble and finish your garment. (Pattern: Free Range Slacks by SEWHOUSE7)

COMPLETION OF Machine Sewing: a primer/MODULES 1 AND 2A OR equivalent knowledge is required to take this class.

Make Your Own Umbrella

Description

Students will learn how to make FABULOUS one of a kind, custom umbrellas. These umbrellas are perfect for rain or shine. They are also great for bridal or baby showers. Umbrellas are made using tightly woven, cotton fabric. Basic hand and machine sewing skills are necessary for this project. This is a great project for those with a serger.

Boy's Sport Shirt Workshop

Men's Sport Shirt Workshop

Description

Easier than it looks! Choose a fun cotton fabric to make “something to talk about” for your favorite guy. Techniques including sewing in a collar, detail top stitching, and perfect buttonholes will be included to create a shirt any guy would love to wear. Perfect Christmas Gift too!

Additional instructions: The pattern is Simplicity 8180 and it is very TRUE to SIZE. If you have questions, please email me. I want every student to make the most of their time in class learning new techniques.

Rope Coasters

Description

Add some “Zig to your Zag” while adding texture and color to your table this fall. Garnish your table with coasters made from 100% Sustainable Cotton Rope from the Mountains of North Carolina. Create your own style by adding color with thread or using your fabric scraps from other projects. Each coaster will measure about 5” in diameter. All levels are welcome. Intermediate students should be able to complete all six coasters within the time allowed.

For the sewist who loves the fine heirloom look of a smocked garment, but using the fun, colorful fabrics available today! Take your sewing for children or grandchildren to the next level with the really simple technique of sewing tiny pleats together to create a lovely gathered bishop dress.

No need to invest in a pricey pleater, I'll do that part for you. Using the Children's Corner Bishop pattern, You choose your fabric, size and sleeve style.

Rope Sewing - Spring Basket and Bread Baske

Description

Add some “Zig to your Zag” while adding texture and color to your home this Spring. Garnish your table with lovely baskets with a flair and interchangeable borders with each season. We will use 100% Sustainable Cotton Rope from the Mountains of North Carolina. Create your own style by adding color with thread, ribbon, floral wire or using your fabric scraps from other projects. Each basket will measure 8-10 inches in diameter. You will need to take the Rope Coaster Class prior to taking this class to learn the fundamentals of working with rope. Pocket Travel Organizer

Description

This 3-Pocket travel organizer makes packing for a vacation a breeze! Not just for toiletries: organize and carry needlework, crafts and accessories too.

It was designed especially for the L890 or combo serger ,but can also be totally constructed with a regular machine. For those with a combo serger, we will demo the different techniques the pattern discusses. PLEASE review pattern to see what serger feet are required. Otherwise, students can free-motion, use decorative stitches and satin stitch the front embellishments with a regular machine.

Serger Club

Normally, Second Friday of Each Month

Description

Time to brush off those sergers and learn how to use them at this once a month gathering. New skills and confidence will blossom as we work through the simple projects each month. All sergers are welcome however PLEASE bring your manual. If there is a glitch, usually someone in the group has experienced it and we all work through it! Once you see what a serger can do, you'll be amazed!


Our first workshop will be constructing dinner napkins (rolled hem) and quilted placemats (serger applied binding with fusible thread technique)
